About Us

Students are aware of the activities that are taking place on their campuses but many times are reluctant to share that information with adults due to the fact that they fear reprisal or being labeled. Alert is an acronym for “Always Let Experts Respond Timely”. The program is designed to empower students with the freedom to disseminate information about negative activities that are occurring on their campuses while at the same time it protects them by keeping their identities confidential. The result is a comprehensive program which encompasses the extensive knowledge of experienced law enforcement professionals, educators, administrators, and community resource specialists who are dedicated to the betterment of the lives of young people in our society.

In the analysis they provided to local law enforcement officials, Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have also outlined activities to watch for that may suggest potential unwelcome surveillance of educational facilities. These indicators alone may in fact reflect legitimate activity not related to terrorism. Multiple indicators, however, could suggest a heightened terrorist or criminal threat. These indicators include the following

  1. Unusual interest in security, entry points, and access controls or barriers such as fences or walls
  2. Interest in obtaining site plans for schools, bus routes, attendance lists and other information about a school, its employees or students
  3. Unusual behavior such as staring at or quickly looking away from personnel or vehicles entering or leaving designated facilities or parking areas
  4. Observation of security reaction drills or procedures
  5. Increase in anonymous telephone or e-mail threats to facilities in conjunction with suspected surveillance incidents
  6. Foot surveillance using bicycles, scooters, motorcycles, cars, trucks, sport utility vehicles, limousines, boats or small aircraft
